Over the past year I have recorded some songs while travelling. Some minimal poppy stuff, awkward stuff, field recordings and instrumentals. Not having a guitar or a studio to work from made these recordings more fun, and not having a stable place to work led to more experiments, short bursts of writing and having to complete songs in one sitting.
Due to the nature of recording I have a mass of stuff to edit, loop, tidy, improve, fuck with and master. In the meantime, here are three of the tracks. Listen or download the EP free from Bandcamp. As you will hear, there are no lack of guitars on Complacency. This was a lapse and it wont happen again. Cheers.
Earlier this year I went on a recording trip to France. With no guitars around, and no studio, the music and process was more fun and less precious. All the music from that project will take a while to put together, but meantime, here is a song and some artwork, part of an EP which will be released next week and will cost you nothing.
Tomorrow (July 2nd) I set off on a trip which begins in London, and ends in Brussels, via a few places in France. I am going to document this trip through music, video, photographs and the occasional blog. The plan is to write and record songs on buses and trains, in cafes, houses, parks and wherever else I get a free moment really. I’ll try to incorporate the places and people I meet into the music as much as possible.
I want to use this project to write freely, quickly, and not be so precious. I’ll post something most days. And if there is enough good material, I’ll try and put something together when I get home. If that sounds interesting, you can follow the project here.
You can listen to last nights session with Scottish Fiction here. Acoustic versions of Fante, Eggshells and Blood and Glitter, chat and some choice music.
We played our first show, last Friday, at the Song, by Toad Xmas bash. It went quite well I think. Good crowd, bands, and venue. Thanks to everyone who helped make it a fine evening. The photo below was taken at the show; that’s me, with no head. We also launched our new EP, Repulsive Sunsets on the night. If you weren’t there, you can buy one at a record shop, or right HERE. Thanks.
Download/listen to one of the tracks from Repulsive Sunsets HERE.
Listen to it on the Cloud Sounds podcast HERE.
Buy tickets to hear the song being played live HERE.
Oh, and buy the EP HERE.
I sometimes get asked why the album is called The Party’s Over. On the first version of the album, the final song was called ‘The Party’s Over’. The song ultimately didnt make the cut and was replaced by ‘Closing Time’, but the album title remained.
Here’s a short demo of the track if you fancy a listen. I think it’s lost for good now, with the other album orphans.
Have an EP on me. Two new songs and an old one, which will probably be new to most of you. The whole thing is under six minutes long so wont take up much of your time, and if you don’t like it, you can have your money back. Cheers.
